Reproductive psychiatry, rooted in care
Psychiatric care for women moving through motherhood, menopause, and everything in between—in a world that doesn’t make it easy to care for yourself.
Compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric care across the reproductive lifespan.
At Sacred Cedar, we’re proud to have Dr. Setare Eslami leading this reproductive psychiatry. As Chair of Women’s Mental Health at the Central California Psychiatric Society, Dr. Eslami brings both deep expertise and a grounded, thoughtful approach to care. Whether you’re navigating fertility challenges, pregnancy, postpartum changes, or perimenopause, you don’t have to go through it alone.
Reproductive psychiatry is about more than hormones or medication. It’s about understanding how your mental health is impacted by real biological, relational, and social changes. Our approach is thoughtful, individualized, and grounded in current research. When appropriate, we offer medication support that aligns with your values, physical health, and family planning goals.
You’re navigating intense mood swings or anxiety in the days or weeks before your period, and you’re starting to wonder if it’s something more than stress.
You’re pregnant or recently gave birth, and instead of feeling like yourself, you’re overwhelmed, disconnected, or on edge—and unsure where to turn.
You’re in your 30s or 40s, and something feels off—your anxiety is worse, your sleep is disrupted, and emotions you’ve managed for years are suddenly harder to handle.
You’re moving through fertility challenges or pregnancy loss, and the emotional weight is starting to feel like too much to carry alone.

We provide care for
-
PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder) causes severe emotional and physical symptoms in the days or weeks before menstruation—far beyond typical PMS. People may experience mood swings, irritability, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating that disrupt daily life. Treatment may include hormone-sensitive psychiatric medication, lifestyle adjustments, and careful monitoring of cycles to create a personalized care plan.
-
Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) includes depression, anxiety, OCD, and panic that occur during pregnancy or after childbirth. Symptoms may include intrusive thoughts, sleep disturbance, irritability, or emotional numbness. Treatment is highly individualized and may include psychotherapy, medication (including pregnancy-safe options), and coordination with OB-GYNs or doulas.
-
During the years leading up to menopause, fluctuating hormones can intensify existing depression or anxiety—or bring on new symptoms like irritability, brain fog, or emotional reactivity. We offer careful assessment and, when appropriate, medication support that takes hormonal shifts and life context into account.
